National Traveller MABS welcomes todays announcement by Minister Alan Dillon that a new preferential trailer loan scheme will commence in 2025 with €4 million in funding being provided by Government.
The new Scheme will allow local authorities to offer preferential, discounted loans for Traveller families to purchase a trailer for use as their primary residence.
In particular National Traveller MABS welcomes the increase in the maximum amount of the loan from €40,000 to €80,000, which will allow families to purchase residential standard energy efficient trailers that are suitable for year round living.
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage will now proceed to implement the new Scheme and communicate with local authorities through Circular advising the details of the new Scheme to facilitate commencement of the scheme across all local authorities in early 2025.
